Embraced by the wings of the falcon, a symbol of regality and power, sky God Horus was seen as the Lord of Heaven - a primal deity. As depicted on artifacts from the First Dynastic Period, the original conception of Horus as a sky god, the Lord of Heaven, gave him multiple aspects. Horus is shown as manifested in the body of the king. Horus is also shown with outstretched wings which come form the sky, and Horus is shown a third time as the Sun, the Eye of Horus, which looms over the king.
When Horus is shown in the aspect of outstretched wings forming the sky, these wings are often shown connecting with the horizons through symbols that resemble the scepter, which was traditionally carried by the Pharaoh. The symbolism is indicative of Horus' role in transmitting the authority of heaven to the earth.
The falcon imagery extends farther than the outstretched wings. The colors of the sunrise and sunset gave Horus the name feathered in many hues, and the wispy clouds of Egypts evening sky were seen as similar to a falcons speckled breast. The two eyes of the falcon are seen in the sun and the moon with the moon's diminished status often attributed in later traditions to wounds sustained from his conflict with Seth.
